Rodester Brandon is artistic director and conductor of the Miami Wind Symphony, which he founded in 2010. He enjoys a distinguished career as a conductor, bassoonist and educator, currently serving as chairman of the Music, Theater and Dance department at Miami Dade College's Kendall Campus.

A 1980 graduate of the University of Miami with a bachelor's degree in Music Education, Mr. Brandon earned a master's degree from the University of Michigan in Bassoon Performance in 1981. He furthered his music studies through conducting conferences with such conducting pedagogues as Frederick Fennell, Eugene Corporon, Robert Reynolds, Allan McMurray, Jerry Junkin, Craig Kirchhoff, Robert Rumbelow, Roby George and David Waybright. He is also a recipient of the Northwestern University Summer Fellowship and the Offutt Air Force Band Conducting Fellowship.

A full-time educator since 1981, Mr. Brandon was formerly band director at Homestead High School, Atlantic High School in Daytona Beach, and New World School of the Arts in Miami, and has also held adjunct professor positions at Miami Dade College and Florida Memorial College in Miami. Throughout his career, his colleagues have honored him by nominating and electing him Teacher of the Year.

Bands under his direction have consistently received superior ratings at festivals and notable acclaim in concert performances. Among these is the New World School of the Arts Wind Ensemble, which performed at the Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic in Chicago in 2006. Additionally, Mr. Brandon has been a clinician for the National Board for Certified Teaching at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. He was sponsored iniatives to commission two published band works - "Visions of Flight" by Robert Sheldon and "Excelsior" by Robert Longfield. He is a frequent guest conductor and competition judge at music festivals.

Mr. Brandon is active in the Florida Bandmasters Association, having served as a state board member, chairman and secretary of the Miami-Dade district, and a member of the association's Concert Music and Solo and Ensemble Committees. He is currently on the board of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony and is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Florida Music Educators Association, Dade County Music Teachers Association and National Assocation of Schools of Music.
