Miami Wind Symphony Honors Academy

The MWSHA will address the need and demand for performing opportunities for underserved, talented wind instrumental music students in the South Miami Dade County area.

The project is aimed at filling diminishing opportunities for students in the public school system. The MWSHA will hold weekly rehearsals at a select rehearsal facility. The MWSHA will provide exceptional music students a high quality music performance experience not available in their local school environment. Weekly rehearsal sessions will allow these students the opportunity to meet with professional musicians in preparation for polished performances throughout the session. First and foremost, the MWSHA will emphasize musical performance of the highest caliber.

The MWSHA will expect a high level of achievement on the part of each individual performer. The MWSHA will emphasize the personal responsibility of each member to thoroughly prepare for the benefit of the entire ensemble. We will introduce the players to great repertoire written for symphonic band. By extension, we will emphasize the importance of familiarity to different cultures and nationalities from throughout the world. As with any musical ensemble, the MWSHA will emphasize the importance of group dynamics and participation. The season will include and opportunity to perform side-by-side with the professionals of the Miami Wind Symphony.

REHEARSALS

The ensemble will meet weekly on Sunday in two locations, one in the South, at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus and one in the North at Krop Senior High School.
